On
Fuerteventura, there is generally a more relaxed attitude towards
naturism than n the UK. As a rough and ready rule, if the beach is
not in a town or dotted with sun beds, nudism is permitted.
The weather is obviously one reason that naturists are attracted to
Fuerteventura but the sheer number of beaches – some isolated – is
another. Although there is no official line on nudism in
Fuerteventura, it is clearly tolerated.
If it is an all over tan you are
seeking, if you like to enjoy the sun and sea without the
constraints of clothes, if naturism is your thing, then
Fuerteventura is certainly a prime holiday venue.
If you are after greater privacy before shedding your clothes, then there
are plenty of makeshift stone shelters dotted around beaches.
Topless bathing
Topless sun bathing is allowed on all beaches and around swimming
pools. But if you go shopping in the Atlantico shopping centre in
Caleta de Fuste, women should wear a top - if a woman goes in
wearing only a bikini she will be asked to cover up!
If you are not a regular on the naturism scene, remember that you
will be exposing parts of your body that don't normally see the sun
so remember to put ample lashings of high protection sun lotion over
those naughty bits!
Not everyone may share your views on nudity and naturism. Some may
even be offended so discretion is often the key word.
But nudism is common away from family
areas and will most likely only surprise the odd tourist caught
unaware.
Nudist beaches are not sign posted as such. Because Spain has no law
banning nudism, it can be practised in any public area! However,
over the years some areas have become more popular than others while
there are a few places where nudism would, at least, draw a few
disapproving glances.
We have listed a few of the more popular naturist sites below.
However, do not be put off visiting these places even if you prefer
to cover up. Nudism is optional and many non-naturist families also
visit these beaches.
In the major resorts, nudism is common among the sand dunes of
Corralejo and, in Morro Jable, on the beach to the north of the
light house while in Caleta de Fuste, it is not common at all.
